How is No Limit Texas Holdem like battle?
Whether or not you are playing in a hold em tournament or a cash game, you must always
have the mentality that it is you against the entire table. Highlander, baby! There can be only
one! You must use all of your military hardware (your chips) as well as political diplomacy to do
two things.
First, you must throw any wounded players to the sharks. It a player is on tilt, tired, drunk or
otherwise off their better game, it is up to you to take advantage of it while subtly letting the
other players know what you have noticed. You need to put a bulls eye on someone. Just say,
"Oh, oh someone is on tilt" to a sensitive player, they will react poorly (usually over-acting how
NOT on tilt they are) and sit back and watch the feeding frenzy begin. Even the following
pleasant comments can be insidious, "Wow, you are on fire. What a rush. You are
unbeatable!" A player with a big ego or a newbie should fairly consistently over-play their next
few hands. You just hope to catch some cards during that time and watch them bluff their chips
off to you. A carefully placed remake like, "Hmmm, you don't normally make mistakes like that"
will usually set a little fire brewing in on overly confident player. Other players will add to the
flame and hopefully, they will be out of chips and if you're in a tournament, you will be one step
closer to the money. One thing that conservative players always hate is to be called out.
When they finally do play a hand, you can just say, "See I knew you were going to play another
hand some time) Say it jokingly, pleasantly, no disrespect in your voice. The table will still all
take note that this player hasn't played a hand in a while. The player will be quietly pissed off
that you would call them out like that. Conservative players would rather exist in the dark, only
coming out in the sunlight when they have a big hand. Since big hands are rare, they want to
be forgotten about most of the time. Don't let them hide from the table.
Secondly, you must always be defending yourself from being viewed as an injured animal.
Think of it like a wrestling match with 10 people in the ring at the same time. When the fight
starts, the fighters will attack weaker opponents, not stronger ones. Never let the table look at
you as easy pickings.
